Calamari

Spicy Aioli

Method

Preparing the Spicy Aioli

  1. 1

    Make the Aioli

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and Sriracha sauce. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

  2. 2

    Season the Aioli

Add salt to taste and stir again. Adjust the spiciness by adding more Sriracha if desired. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Frying the Calamari

  1. 3

    Prepare the Coating

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

  2. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  3. 5

    Coat the Calamari

Dredge the calamari rings in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  4. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully lower the coated calamari rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 7

    Drain the Calamari

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried calamari hot with the prepared spicy aioli on the side.
