Lasagna Ingredients
Method
Lasagna Preparation
- 1
Prepare the sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- 2
Mix the ricotta filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, black pepper, and half of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.
- 3
Assemble the lasagna
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of sweet tomato sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of pasta sheets over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the pasta, followed by half of the cooked sausage, a layer of mozzarella cheese, and another layer of sauce. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pasta, sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- 4
Bake the lasagna
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- 5
Let it rest
Remove from the oven and let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped fresh basil if desired.
