Scorpion Bowl Base (serves 2)

Fruit Juices & Mixers

Method

Prepare Bowl & Ice

  1. 1

    Chill and ice

Place a large Scorpion bowl or a roughly 32 oz mixing bowl in the freezer for 10–15 minutes if possible. Meanwhile, fill the bowl with crushed ice (about 3 cups) so the cocktail stays cold and slightly diluted while serving.

  2. 2

If you don't have crushed ice, fill the bowl about two-thirds full with cubed ice and briefly crush with a muddler or the back of a spoon.

Mix Cocktail

  1. 3

    Combine spirits and juices

In a large cocktail shaker (or a large measuring pitcher), add the Cruzán rum (8 oz), Dekuyper Amaretto (1.5 oz), gin (1 oz), and apricot brandy (1 oz). Add the orange juice (3 oz), pineapple juice (6 oz), cranberry juice (3 oz), and grenadine (0.5 oz).

  2. 4

    Shake or stir

If using a shaker, fill with ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy. If using a pitcher, stir briskly with a long spoon for 20–30 seconds to combine and chill against the ice in the bowl or a separate ice-filled container.

Assemble & Serve

  1. 5

    Strain into bowl

Discard excess meltwater from the chilled bowl if necessary. Using a strainer (or carefully pour), transfer the mixed cocktail over the crushed ice in the Scorpion bowl so the liquid nests among the ice.

  2. 6

    Float 151 rum

Carefully float the 151 proof rum (0.5 oz) on top of the drink: pour it slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the surface so it sits as a visible layer. Warning: 151 rum is flammable and very high-proof—do not ignite unless experienced and in a safe environment.

  3. 7

    Garnish

Garnish the bowl with orange wheels, pineapple slices, and maraschino cherries (arrange two orange wheels, two pineapple wedges, and 3–4 cherries). Insert long straws and a stirring spoon so two people can share the bowl.

  4. 8

Serve immediately. Each person can ladle or sip from the shared bowl. Stir before serving again to reincorporate the float if desired.
