Shrimp and Marinade
Coating (light and kid-friendly)
Cooking and Serving
Method
Shrimp and Marinade
- 1
Prepare shrimp
Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Make sure they are fully thawed if previously frozen.
- 2
Place the 5 shrimp in a small bowl. Add 1 tbs olive oil, 1 tsp lemon juice, 0.5 tsp minced garlic, 1 tsp salt, and 0.25 tsp black pepper. Toss gently to coat each shrimp. Let marinate for 5–10 minutes at room temperature while you prepare the coating. (Do not marinate long for kids’ shrimp to avoid the acid altering texture.)
Coating (light and kid-friendly)
- 3
In a shallow plate or small bowl combine 2 tsp all-purpose flour, 2 tsp fine bread crumbs or panko, and 0.25 tsp paprika (optional). Mix until even. This light coating gives a little texture without being heavy.
- 4
One at a time, remove a shrimp from the marinade, letting excess liquid drip off, and gently toss or press it into the coating mixture so a thin, even layer adheres. Shake off excess coating and set the coated shrimp on a clean plate.

Flip the shrimp and cook another 1–2 minutes until opaque throughout and the internal temperature reaches 63°C (145°F) or the flesh is opaque and firm. Total cook time will be about 3–5 minutes depending on shrimp size. Avoid overcooking to keep shrimp tender for kids.

For children: Allow the shrimp to cool to a safe temperature before serving. Cut into bite-sized pieces if needed for younger kids.
