Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Fill a highball glass or Collins glass with crushed ice or large ice cubes (about 1 cup). If you prefer a chilled glass, place the glass in the freezer for a few minutes beforehand and then add ice.

  2. 2

    Build the drink

Pour 2 oz Iichiko Silhouette shochu into the prepared glass over the ice. Add 0.5 oz fresh lime juice.

  3. 3

    Top with ginger beer

Slowly top the glass with 4 oz Q Ginger Beer. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to combine the shochu, lime and ginger beer without flattening the carbonation.

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Express a lime wedge over the drink by squeezing it lightly to release oils, then drop it into the glass. Add a slice of fresh or candied ginger and/or a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.

Optional adjustments

  1. 5

To make it slightly sweeter, add 0.25 oz simple syrup (1:1) when you add the lime juice and stir to combine. For a more pronounced ginger profile, muddle a thin slice of fresh ginger in the glass before adding ice, then proceed with the recipe. To make a pitcher, scale the ingredients proportionally and add ginger beer just before serving to keep it fizzy.
