Fried Okra Ingredients
Method
Fried Okra Directions
- 1
Prepare the Okra
Wash the fresh okra and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
- 2
Set up Breading Station
In one bowl, pour the buttermilk. In another bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 3
Coat the Okra
Dip each okra slice into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture until fully coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).
- 5
Fry the Okra
Carefully add the coated okra slices to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch, turning occasionally.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried okra with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
