For the Candied Yams
Method
Preparation Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Yams
Peel and slice the yams into 1/4 inch thick rounds.
- 2
Boil the Yams
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the sliced yams and cook for about 10-15 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
- 3
Make the Syrup
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until well combined and the sugar is dissolved.
- 4
Combine Yams and Syrup
Add the boiled yams to the saucepan and gently toss to coat them in the syrup.
- 5
Bake
Transfer the yams to a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 25-30 minutes.
- 6
Add Marshmallows
Remove the yams from the oven, sprinkle the marshmallows on top, and return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes or until the marshmallows are golden brown.
- 7
Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm.
