Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This will help remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato strips and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Ensure they are as dry as possible to prevent oil splatter.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of potato strips to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until the fries are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder while they are still hot.

  5. 7

    Repeat

Repeat the frying process with the remaining potato strips until all are cooked. Adjust seasoning to taste as desired.
