Method
Tea Base
Heat water
Bring 900 ml of fresh filtered water to just under a boil — about 80–85°C (175–185°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a simmer where small bubbles form but it is not vigorously boiling.
Steep tea
Add 8 g of Thai green tea blend (or strong sencha/bancha) to a heatproof teapot or infuser. Pour the hot water over the leaves and steep for 3–4 minutes for a robust flavor. Taste at 3 minutes; if you prefer stronger, steep up to 5 minutes but avoid over-steeping to prevent excessive bitterness.
Strain and cool
Strain the tea leaves through a fine mesh sieve or tea strainer into a heatproof container. Allow the brewed tea to cool at room temperature for 10–15 minutes, then place in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes until chilled. (If you need it fast, transfer to an ice bath to cool more quickly.)
Sweetened Condensed Milk Mixture
Combine dairy and sugar
In a mixing container or small pitcher, whisk together 120 ml sweetened condensed milk, 120 ml whole milk, 60 ml evaporated milk (if using), and 1 tablespoon granulated sugar until smooth and homogenous. The sugar helps adjust sweetness and thins the condensed milk slightly for easier pouring. Taste and adjust sweetness; remember the tea will be diluted with ice.
Chill mixture
Place the milk mixture in the refrigerator while the tea cools so both components are cold when assembled.
Finishing & Serving
Assemble the drink
Fill two tall glasses with 1.5 cups of ice each (about 3 cups total used for two servings). Pour equal portions of the chilled brewed green tea into the glasses, filling to about three-quarters full.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with an optional mint sprig and/or a lime wedge on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring spoon.
Notes on substitutions
For a lighter version, reduce sweetened condensed milk to 90 ml and increase whole milk to 150 ml. For vegan option, use sweetened condensed coconut milk and a plant-based milk (unsweetened soy or oat) in place of dairy.
