Method
Cocktail
Measure and add spirits
Into a mixing glass or a Boston shaker (without shaking), add 2 tablespoons Jamaican overproof rum, 1/2 tablespoon French orange liqueur, and 1/2 tablespoon Carpano Antica.
Stir to chill and dilute
Stir the mixture gently for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 strokes) until the outside of the mixing glass becomes frosty and the drink is well chilled and slightly diluted. Because the rum is high proof, ensure proper dilution to balance the alcohol strength.
Prepare garnish
While stirring, cut a fresh orange twist: use a vegetable peeler or paring knife to remove a 1–2 inch long strip of orange peel, avoiding too much pith. Express the oils by holding the twist over the chilled glass and pinching it so the oils spray over the drink.
Strain and serve
Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a julep strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available to catch any tiny ice chips or solids.
