Fried Fish Poboy Ingredients

Method

Directions for Fried Fish Poboy

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fish

In a large bowl, soak the fish fillets in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and infuse flavor.

  2. 2

    Mix the Coating

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Coat the Fish

Remove the fish fillets from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the fillets in the flour mixture until evenly coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (about 350°F or 175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Fish

Carefully add the coated fish fillets to the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Poboys

Slice the French bread or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise. Spread mayonnaise on both sides. Add shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and the fried fish fillets. Drizzle with hot sauce if desired.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the fried fish poboys immediately while hot and crispy.
