BLT Sandwich

French Onion Soup

Method

BLT Sandwich

  1. 1

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Sandwich

Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Layer lettuce, tomato slices, and cooked bacon on two slices, then top with the other two slices, mayonnaise side down.

  3. 3

    Toast the Sandwich

In the same skillet, toast the sandwich on both sides until golden brown and heated through. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

French Onion Soup

  1. 4

    Sauté the Onions

In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 30 minutes, stirring frequently.

  2. 5

    Add Liquid Ingredients

Add the dry white wine and scrape the bottom of the pot to release any brown bits. Cook for another 5 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Broth and Seasoning

Pour in the beef broth, add thyme, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.

  4. 7

    Prepare the Cheese Toast

Slice the baguette and toast the slices until golden. Top each slice with gruyere cheese and broil until melted.

  5. 8

    Serve the Soup

Remove the bay leaf from the soup. Ladle the soup into bowls, top with the cheese toast, and serve hot.
