Method

Brewing Process

  1. 1

    Mashing

Heat water to about 65-70°C (149-158°F) and add the malted barley. Stir and hold the temperature for 60 minutes to convert starches to sugars.

  2. 2

    Lautering

After mashing, separate the liquid wort from the grain husks. This can be done by draining the liquid or using a sieve.

  3. 3

    Boiling

Boil the wort for 60 minutes, adding hops at the beginning and again in the last 15 minutes for flavor and aroma.

  4. 4

    Cooling

After boiling, cool the wort quickly to about 20°C (68°F) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.

  5. 5

    Fermentation

Transfer the cooled wort to a fermentation vessel, pitch the yeast, and seal with an airlock. Allow fermentation to occur at around 18-22°C (64-72°F) for 1-2 weeks.

  6. 6

    Bottling

Once fermentation is complete, transfer the beer to sanitized bottles. Add priming sugar if carbonation is desired. Seal and let sit for an additional week.

  7. 7

    Enjoy

Chill and serve your homemade beer. Enjoy responsibly!
