Baguette Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape Baguettes
Punch down the risen dough, divide it into two equal pieces, and shape each piece into a baguette. Place them on a floured baking sheet.
- 6
Second Rise
Cover the shaped baguettes with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- 8
Bake Baguettes
Using a sharp knife, make a few slashes on top of the baguettes. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- 9
Cool
Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
