Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Take a short glass or an old-fashioned glass and add 1 teaspoon of sugar to the bottom.

  2. 2

    Add Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters over the sugar.

  3. 3

    Muddle Ingredients

Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently muddle the sugar and bitters together until the sugar begins to dissolve.

  4. 4

    Add Bourbon

Pour 2 ounces of bourbon into the glass over the muddled sugar and bitters.

  5. 5

    Add Ice

Fill the glass with ice cubes, preferably one large cube or sphere for slow dilution.

  6. 6

    Stir

Stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Garnish

Take an orange piece (a slice or twist) and twist the peel over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into the glass.
