Tofu and Seasoning

Chili Crisp

Carrot Miso Dressing

Coconut Jasmine Rice

Method

Prepare the Tofu

  1. 1

    Press the Tofu

Wrap the firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Cube and Season

Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. In a bowl, combine Korean chili powder, soy sauce, garlic powder, and toss the tofu cubes in this mixture. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Coat with Cornstarch

After marinating, sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu cubes and toss gently to coat evenly.

  4. 4

    Fry the Tofu

Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu cubes until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Wontons

  1. 5

    Fry the Wontons

Heat vegetable oil in a separate pan over medium heat. Fry the wonton wrappers until they are crispy and golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Slaw

  1. 6

    Mix the Slaw

In a mixing bowl, combine shredded green papaya, carrot, chopped cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Toss well and let it sit for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Make the Chili Crisp

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together chili oil, fried garlic, fried shallots, and sesame seeds. Set aside for serving.

Prepare the Carrot Miso Dressing

  1. 8

    Blend the Dressing

In a blender, combine grated carrot, white miso paste, rice vinegar, honey or agave syrup, and water. Blend until smooth.

Cook the Coconut Jasmine Rice

  1. 9

    Cook the Rice

In a saucepan, combine jasmine rice, coconut milk, water, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and fluffy.

Assemble the Bowl

  1. 10

    Layer the Ingredients

In a bowl, layer the coconut jasmine rice, followed by crispy tofu, green papaya slaw, crispy wontons, and drizzle with carrot miso dressing and chili crisp.
