Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add yogurt, olive oil, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cooking the Naan

  1. 5

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat until very hot.

  2. 6

    Shape the Naan

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and flatten into a tear-shaped flatbread.

  3. 7

    Cook the Naan

Place the naan on the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  4. 8

    Add Toppings

Brush the cooked naan with ghee or butter, sprinkle with minced garlic, chopped cilantro, and salt to taste.

  5. 9

    Serve

Serve warm alongside your favorite dishes or curries.
