Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Using a vegetable peeler or a knife, peel the potatoes to remove the skin.

  2. 2

    Cut the Potatoes

Cut each potato into even sticks about 1/4 inch thick. Aim for uniformity to ensure even cooking. Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is crucial to avoid oil splatter and ensure crispy fries.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully lower a handful of dried potato fries into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss gently to ensure even coating.
