Method
Cooking Pasta
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt.
Cook Macaroni
Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions (usually about 8-10 minutes) until al dente.
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce
Add Flour
Once the butter is melted, add 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour to the butter. Stir continuously for about 1 minute to form a roux.
Add Milk
Slowly whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Reduce heat to low, then add 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 0.5 tsp salt, 0.25 tsp black pepper, and 0.5 tsp garlic powder. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is creamy.
Combining and Serving
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.
Add Toppings (Optional)
If desired, sprinkle 0.5 cups of breadcrumbs and 0.25 cups of grated parmesan cheese on top of the macaroni and cheese.
Serve
Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your cheesy mac!
