Falafel Ingredients

Method

Falafel Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Chickpeas

Soak the chickpeas in water overnight or for at least 8 hours. Rinse and drain before using.

  2. 2

    Cook Red Lentils

In a small saucepan, combine the red lentils and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes until the lentils are soft. Drain any excess water and let cool.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a food processor, combine the soaked chickpeas, cooked red lentils, garlic cloves, onion, cilantro, cumin, coriander, salt, and baking powder. Pulse until the mixture is coarse yet well combined.

  4. 4

    Form Falafel Balls

Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the bread crumbs. Mix well. Form small balls or patties (about 1-2 inches in diameter) from the mixture.

  5. 5

    Fry the Falafel

Heat the olive oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the falafel in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the falafel warm, topped with pickled onions and peppers. Drizzle with garlic sauce if desired.
