Preparing the Calamari

Clean and Cut the Calamari
Ensure the calamari is cleaned and cut into rings. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Prepare the Coating
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well.

Dredge the Calamari
Toss the calamari rings in the flour mixture until well coated. Shake off any excess flour.

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Making the Marinara Sauce

Add the Tomatoes
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.

Season the Sauce
Add dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the sauce. Stir well and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Garnish and Serve
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat. Garnish with fresh chopped basil before serving.
