Base Ingredients

Smoky Flavoring

Vegetables

Protein (Optional)

Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Start by rinsing the wokashi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a large pot, combine the rinsed wokashi rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes.

Preparing the Vegetables

  1. 3

    Chop the Vegetables

While the rice is cooking, chop the bell pepper, onion, and carrot into small, bite-sized pieces.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large skillet or wok, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and carrot, and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they begin to soften.

  3. 5

    Add Remaining Vegetables

Add the bell pepper and green peas to the skillet. Sauté for another 3-5 minutes until all vegetables are tender.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 6

    Add Smoky Flavoring

Stir in the smoked paprika and liquid smoke, mixing well to coat the vegetables.

  2. 7

    Incorporate Rice

Fluff the cooked rice with a fork, then add it to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir gently to combine everything.

  3. 8

    Add Protein (Optional)

If using tofu, cut it into cubes and add it to the skillet. Pour in the soy sauce and stir to combine, heating through for another 2-3 minutes.

Serving

  1. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Transfer the smokey wokashi to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving.
