Mojito Base

Ice & Finish

Method

Mojito Base

  1. 1

    Measure and add base liquids

Add 2 oz silver rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.75 oz simple syrup to a mixing glass or shaker.

Herbs & Muddling

  1. 2

    Prepare mint

Place about 8–10 fresh mint leaves into a sturdy mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Reserve a fresh mint sprig for garnish.

  2. 3

    Muddle gently

Add the rum/lime/syrup mixture to the glass with the mint. Using a cocktail muddler, gently press and twist the mint leaves 6–8 times to release oils and aroma. Do not pulverize the leaves — avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.

Assembling the Drink

  1. 4

    Add ice

Fill a highball or Collins glass about three-quarters full with crushed ice (about 1 cup). If you muddled in a separate mixing glass, strain the muddled liquid over the ice into the serving glass; if you muddled in the serving glass, simply add the crushed ice on top.

  2. 5

    Top with soda

Pour approximately 2 oz (about a small splash) of cold soda water over the ice to top the drink. Gently stir 6–8 times with a bar spoon to combine and lift the mint leaves through the ice.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 6

Garnish with the reserved mint sprig and a lime wheel or wedge. Clap the mint sprig lightly between your palms once to release its aroma before placing it in the glass. Serve with a straw and enjoy.
