Bourbon and Glassware
Optional Aromatic Finish
Method
Bourbon and Glassware
- 1
Chill glass (optional)
If you prefer a colder drink, place an Old Fashioned / rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the other elements.
- 2
Place a single large ice cube or sphere into the chilled rocks glass. A large cube melts slower and keeps the drink balanced without diluting quickly.
- 3
Measure 2 oz of Weller Single Barrel (or a comparable 10-year sour mash bourbon) and pour it over the ice cube.
- 4
If using bitters, add 1 dash of Angostura bitters directly into the bourbon and give the glass a gentle swirl (10–15 seconds) to integrate the bitters and slightly chill the spirit. This step is optional; the bourbon can be served neat over ice without bitters.
- 5
- 6
Add a brandied or Luxardo cherry on top or skewer it and rest it on the rim, if desired.
- 7
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the aged sour-mash character, oak, and any aromatic notes from the garnish or bitters.
