Method
Cheese Preparation
- 1
Cut Cheese
Cut the White Cheddar cheese into 1-inch cubes and set aside.
Batter
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.
- 3
Add Water
Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the cheese cubes.
Frying
- 4
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter in; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
- 5
Batter Cheese
Dip each cheese cube into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 6
Fry Cheese Curls
Carefully drop the battered cheese cubes into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried cheese curls with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm.
