Method

Preparing the Steak

1

Season the Steak

Rub the sirloin steak with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Optionally add fresh rosemary for extra flavor.

2

Cook the Steak

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the seasoned steak on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is achieved. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Baking the Potato

3

Prep the Potatoes

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Scrub the russet potatoes under cold water and pat them dry. Prick the potatoes several times with a fork to allow steam to escape.

4

Bake the Potatoes

Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until tender when pierced with a fork. For a crispy skin, turn the potatoes halfway through.

5

Serve the Baked Potatoes

Once baked, remove the potatoes from the oven. Cut a slit in the top, fluff the insides with a fork, and add butter, sour cream, chives (if using), salt, and pepper to taste.

Making Mashed Potatoes (alternative)

6

Prep the Potatoes

Peel and cut the russet potatoes into chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.

7

Boil the Potatoes

Bring the pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

8

Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
