Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Wet and Dry
Once the yeast is activated, add it along with the olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Filling Preparation
- 6
Prepare Filling
In a bowl, mix the sliced ham, Italian sausage (cooked and crumbled), shredded mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasoning until evenly combined.
Calzone Assembly and Baking
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 8
Divide Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- 9
Roll Out Dough
On a floured surface, roll each piece of dough into a circle about 10 inches in diameter.
- 10
Fill Calzones
Place a generous amount of filling on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border. Be careful not to overfill.
- 11
Seal Calzones
Fold the other half over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
- 12
- 13

Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 14
