Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly grease four ramekins with butter, then dust them with flour. This will help the cakes release easily after baking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until both are completely melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Stir until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Flour

Sift in the all-purpose flour and gently fold it into the chocolate mixture until no flour streaks remain.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Invert and Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of the ramekins and invert them onto individual plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
