Burger Components

BBQ Sauce

Method

Preparing the BBQ Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the BBQ sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. Set aside.

Preparing the Burger

  1. 3

    Prepare the Patties

In a large mixing bowl, shape the ground beef into 4 equal patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.

  2. 4

    Season the Patties

Season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.

  3. 5

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

  4. 6

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to allow the cheese to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns

Optional: Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, spread a generous amount of BBQ sauce. Place the cheesy patty on top, followed by slices of red onion, a handful of lettuce, and pickles.

  3. 9

    Finish the Burger

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
