Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare Chickpeas
If using dried chickpeas, soak them overnight in water. Drain and rinse before cooking. Place the chickpeas in a pot, cover with water, and boil until tender, approximately 1-2 hours. If using canned chickpeas, simply drain and rinse them.
- 2
Prepare Garlic
Peel and roughly chop the garlic cloves. This will help release their flavor more effectively when blended.
Blending
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a food processor, combine the cooked or canned chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, chopped garlic, salt, ground cumin, and water.
- 4
Blend Until Smooth
Process the mixture until it is smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula occasionally.
- 5
Adjust Consistency
If the hummus is too thick, add more water, one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
Serving
- 6
Serve Hummus
Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle paprika and chopped fresh parsley on top for garnish. Serve with pita bread, vegetable sticks, or your choice of dippers.
