Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
Prepare the Bread
Tear the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl. This will help the bread absorb the custard mixture.
- 3
Mix the Custard
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 4
Combine the Mixtures
Pour the custard mixture over the torn bread pieces. Gently stir to ensure all the bread is coated in the custard. If using, fold in raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts.
Baking
- 5
Prepare Baking Dish
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
- 6
Transfer to Baking Dish
Pour the bread and custard mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
- 8
Serve
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup or caramel sauce if desired.
