Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build the Stack

Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add a lettuce leaf, followed by the cheesy patty, tomato slices, pickles, and red onion. Top with the other half of the bun.
