Method

Preparation of Greek Coffee

  1. 1

    Measure Water

In a small pot or briki, measure out 150 ml of cold water.

  2. 2

    Add Coffee

Add 2 tablespoons of finely ground Greek coffee to the pot with water.

  3. 3

    Add Sugar

If desired, add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the mixture. Adjust sugar amount according to your taste.

  4. 4

    Stir Ingredients

Stir the mixture gently to combine the coffee, water, and sugar thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Heat the Mixture

Place the pot on low heat and allow the mixture to heat slowly without stirring.

  6. 6

    Watch for Foam

As the coffee heats, foam will begin to form. Do not let it boil over; remove from heat when you see it starting to rise.

  7. 7

    Return to Heat

Return the pot to heat and allow it to come to a foamy stage again, then remove it from heat.

  8. 8

    Repeat Heating

Repeat the heating process 2-3 times to develop a rich flavor and foam.

  9. 9

    Serve the Coffee

Carefully pour the coffee into small cups, making sure to leave the grounds settled at the bottom of the pot.

  10. 10

    Add Cardamom (Optional)

If using, sprinkle a pinch of ground cardamom on top of each cup before serving.

  11. 11

    Add Milk (Optional)

If you prefer, add a splash of milk to your coffee before enjoying.
