Optional Chicken Fried Steak

Method

Biscuit Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Biscuits

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and roll to 1-inch thickness. Cut into rounds and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Sausage Gravy Preparation

  1. 2

    Prepare the Sausage Gravy

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until thickened. Season with salt and black pepper.

Bacon Preparation

  1. 3

    Cook the Bacon

In a separate skillet, cook the smoked bacon until crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Optional Chicken Fried Steak Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare Chicken Fried Steak (Optional)

Dredge the steak in flour, dip in a mixture of egg and milk, then back into flour. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the steak until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Plate and Serve

  1. 5

    Assemble the Plate

Serve the warm biscuits topped with sausage gravy, accompanied by crispy smoked bacon. If desired, add the chicken fried steak on the side.
