Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Season the Beef

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the seasoned beef into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty, slightly larger than the burger bun since they'll shrink while cooking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 4

    Prepare Lettuce

Wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Tear them into manageable pieces.

  2. 5

    Slice the Tomato

Wash the tomato and slice it into medium-thick slices.

  3. 6

    Prepare Cheese

Have the cheddar cheese slices ready to place on the patties once they are nearly done cooking.

Making the Spread

  1. 7

    Mix the Spread

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, and yellow mustard. Mix until well blended.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 8

    Toast the Buns

Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill or skillet until lightly golden.

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

Spread the prepared sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce piece, a slice of tomato, one beef patty, a slice of cheese, and then the second beef patty on top. Finish with the top half of the bun.
