Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, milk, and ghee/butter. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape Naan

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape with a rolling pin.

  7. 7

    Cook Naan

Heat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on each side until puffed and golden brown.

  8. 8

    Serve

Brush warm naan with additional ghee or butter and serve immediately.
