Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and allow it to cool to room temperature. If desired, stir in coffee liqueur for added flavor.

  2. 2

    Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar

In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes thick and pale.

  3. 3

    Add Mascarpone Cheese

Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture until well combined and smooth.

  4. 4

    Whip Heavy Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Then, fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture gently.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Dip Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger cookie into the cooled espresso, making sure not to soak them. Lay them in a single layer in a rectangular dish.

  2. 6

    Layer the Mixture

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the first layer of dipped ladyfingers. Smooth it out evenly.

  3. 7

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture. Smooth the top.

Final Touches

  1. 8

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

  2. 9

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder using a fine sieve. Cut into squares and serve chilled.
