Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil.
- 2
Add Salt
Once the water is boiling, add 2 tablespoons of salt to the water. This will season the pasta.
- 3
Cook Spaghetti
Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 4
Cooking Time
Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 5
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water if needed for the sauce.
Preparing the Sauce
- 6
- 7
Sauté Garlic
Add 3 minced garlic cloves to the oil and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- 8
Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in 400 grams of crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper.
- 9
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 10
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
- 11
Serve
Plate the spaghetti and top with 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
