Pasta

Marinara Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring about 4 liters of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, or until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a little pasta water.

Making the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant and golden. Be careful not to burn it.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 8

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil for added flavor.

Combining and Serving

  1. 9

    Combine Spaghetti and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
