Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring about 4 liters of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the tablespoon of salt.

Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, or until al dente.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a little pasta water.
Making the Marinara Sauce

Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, then add oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Just before serving, stir in the chopped fresh basil for added flavor.

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce, tossing to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
