Method

Cannelloni Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add minced garlic, chopped spinach, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir until well combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in fresh basil before removing from heat.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Fill Cannelloni

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each cannelloni tube with the meat and cheese filling, placing them in a single layer in a baking dish.

  2. 6

    Top with Sauce

Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the filled cannelloni. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

  3. 7

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  4. 8

    Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
