Method

Limoncello Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Lemons

Wash the lemons thoroughly under running water to remove any wax or pesticides. Pat them dry with a clean towel.

  2. 2

    Zest the Lemons

Using a microplane or a zester, carefully zest the lemons, making sure to only take the yellow part of the peel, avoiding the bitter white pith. You should have about 1 cup of lemon zest.

  3. 3

    Combine Zest and Vodka

In a large glass jar, combine the lemon zest with the vodka. Seal the jar tightly and let it steep in a cool, dark place for at least 7 days, shaking it gently every couple of days.

  4. 4

    Make the Simple Syrup

In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of granulated sugar and 3 cups of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow to cool.

  5. 5

    Combine and Strain

After the vodka has infused for 7 days, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove the lemon zest. Mix the strained vodka with the cooled simple syrup. Adjust sweetness to taste.

  6. 6

    Bottle the Limoncello

Pour the limoncello into clean glass bottles and seal tightly. Refrigerate for at least another 24 hours before serving.

  3. 9

    Garnish

Garnish each flute with a fresh mint leaf and a sprinkle of lemon zest for an aromatic touch.

  4. 10
