Method
Prepare the Coffee
- 1
Brew the Espresso
Brew 1 cup of espresso coffee and allow it to cool completely. If you prefer an extra kick, mix in coffee liqueur once cooled.
Make the Mascarpone Mixture
- 2
Whisk the Egg Yolks
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until the mixture becomes pale and creamy.
- 3
Combine with Mascarpone
Add 1 cup of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- 4
Whip the Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- 5
Fold in the Cream
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated, being careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
Assemble the Tiramisu
- 6
Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso coffee (and liqueur if using), ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- 7
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular dish, create a layer of soaked ladyfingers, followed by half of the mascarpone mixture. Repeat with another layer of ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- 8
Chill
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
Serve the Tiramisu
- 9
Dust with Cocoa Powder
Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
- 10
Slice and Enjoy
Slice the tiramisu into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy your homemade tiramisu!
