Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Prepare Strawberries

Rinse the fresh strawberries under cold water to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and green leaves, then cut the strawberries into halves or quarters, depending on their size.

  2. 2

    Mix Strawberries and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, combine the prepared strawberries with granulated sugar. Stir gently until all the strawberries are coated with sugar. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let it sit for about 2 hours to allow the strawberries to release their juices.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Strawberry Mixture

Transfer the strawberry and sugar mixture to a large pot. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil. Cook for about 10 minutes until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture starts to thicken.

  2. 4

    Add Lemon Juice and Pectin

Once the mixture thickens, add the lemon juice and pectin to the pot. Stir well to incorporate. Continue to cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring constantly. This will help the jam to set properly.

Canning

  1. 5

    Jar the Jam

Prepare sterilized jars by placing them in boiling water for 10 minutes. Remove the jars and let them cool slightly. Pour the hot strawberry jam into the jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top.

  2. 6

    Seal and Store

Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean cloth to remove any residue. Seal with sterilized lids and bands. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure proper sealing. Allow the jars to cool completely before storing them in a cool, dark place.
