Kaiser Bun

Sandwich Filling

Method

Kaiser Bun Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until combined.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Buns

Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and flatten slightly. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the shaped buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  8. 8

    Egg Wash

Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the buns. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

  9. 9

    Bake Buns

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 10

    Cook Eggs

In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the whites are set but yolks are still runny (or to your desired doneness).

  2. 11

    Assemble Sandwich

Slice the baked kaiser buns in half. On the bottom half, place a handful of arugula, followed by a cooked egg, and a slice of cheddar cheese.

  3. 12

    Finish and Serve

Top with the other half of the kaiser bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your delicious breakfast sandwich!
