Brown Rice

Method

White Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the white rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.

  2. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed white rice, 2 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt.

  3. 3

    Bring to a Boil

Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan. Let it simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water is fully absorbed.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Serve

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Then, fluff the rice with a fork and serve.
