Method

Sashimi Preparation

  1. 1

Slice the smoked salmon into thin pieces, approximately 1/4 inch thick. Arrange them neatly on a plate.

  2. 2

Serve with soy sauce, a dollop of wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.

Sushi Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Sushi Rice

Rinse 1 cup of sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, let it cool slightly.

  2. 4

In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooled rice.

  3. 5

    Assemble the Sushi

On a bamboo sushi mat, place a sheet of nori, shiny side down. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.

  4. 6

Layer the smoked salmon, thinly sliced cucumber, and avocado on top of the rice.

  5. 7

Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently but firmly to ensure it holds together. Seal the edge with a bit of water.

  6. 8

Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the sushi roll before slicing.

  7. 9

Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
