Method

For the Salisbury Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patties

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Steaks

Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties, about 1 inch thick. Set aside.

For the Gravy

  1. 3

    Sauté Onions and Mushrooms

In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for an additional 5 minutes until they are tender.

  2. 4

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle flour over the onion and mushroom mixture, stir to combine, and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.

Cooking the Steaks

  1. 5

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet used for the gravy, add the Salisbury steak patties. Cook over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through.

  2. 6

    Combine with Gravy

Once cooked, pour the gravy over the patties in the skillet and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

For the Mashed Potatoes

  1. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

In a large pot, add the peeled and chopped potatoes and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

For the Vegetables

  1. 9

    Cook the Vegetables

In a small pot, steam or boil the mixed vegetables according to package instructions until tender, about 5-7 minutes.
