Method
Prepare the Burger Patty
- 1
Form the Patty
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into one large patty or two smaller patties, depending on your preference.
- 2
Cook the Patty
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patty and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a crust forms. Flip it and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Sandwich
In the same skillet, spread butter on one side of two slices of rye bread. Place them butter-side down in the skillet. Layer one slice with a slice of Swiss cheese, followed by the cooked burger patty, sautéed mushrooms, and onions, then top with another slice of Swiss cheese and the second slice of bread (butter-side up).
- 5
Grill the Sandwich
Cook the sandwich on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. You might want to press down slightly with a spatula for even grilling.
- 6
Serve
Once grilled to perfection, remove the sandwich from the skillet. Cut in half and serve hot with your favorite condiments.
