Main Ingredients

Mashed Potatoes

Method

Preparing the Mashed Potatoes

  1. 1

    Cook the Potatoes

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook for about 15-20 minutes until tender. Drain and return to the pot.

  2. 2

    Mash the Potatoes

Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Set aside and keep warm.

Making the Pan Gravy

  1. 3

    Prepare the Gravy Base

In a saucepan, heat the pan drippings over medium heat. Sprinkle the flour over the drippings and whisk to combine, cooking for about 2 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Liquid

Slowly add water or broth while continuing to whisk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Assembling the Open Faced Sandwiches

  1. 5

    Toast the Bread

Lightly toast the slices of white bread until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Layer the Meat

On each slice of toasted bread, layer your choice of sliced roasted turkey, meatloaf, pork, or roasted beef.

  3. 7

    Add Mashed Potatoes

Top the meat layer with a generous serving of mashed potatoes.

  4. 8

    Finish with Gravy

Drizzle pan gravy generously over the mashed potatoes and serve immediately.
