Method

Preparing the Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and place them into a bowl.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accurate temperature.

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered rings into the hot oil.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Fry the onion rings in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making the Ranch Dressing

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 7

    Mix Well

Stir the mixture until smooth and well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  3. 8

    Chill

Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
